Eddie Watkins Jr. is a celebrated American bassist, vocalist, songwriter, and speaker—born in Detroit, Michigan, the cradle of the Motown sound

Early musical roots & Motown session career

Began classical piano at age 7, switched to bass guitar around 13–17

At 17, Eddie became a session bassist for Motown’s Norman Whitfield, playing with iconic acts like The Temptations and The Undisputed Truth

As Motown moved west to Los Angeles, Eddie moved too, becoming a sought-after A‑list studio bassist, contributing to recordings by Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand, Herbie Hancock, Santana, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters, James Brown, and more

Turning point: recovery & spiritual emergence

Following years in the fast lane and a struggle with substance abuse, Eddie entered recovery and underwent a spiritual awakening that reshaped his life and art.

From 2007 onward, he channelled his new spiritual insight into music—writing and producing six (now seven) album projects like The Answer, We Come Together, Across America, and Heartsongs

Motown with a Message

Known as the "man from Motown with a Message," Eddie blends soulful Motown grooves with heartfelt spiritual themes.

He served as music director at spiritual centers including ones in Las Vegas and Seattle, and now tours extensively, leading concerts, workshops, and inspiring events.
